A fire at a Delhi facility owned by Tata Communications and ST Telemedia has caused data loss and network outages for clients including Google Cloud.
A fire at a New Delhi data center co-owned by Tata Communications and ST Telemedia has resulted in extensive damage, complicating data recovery efforts. The facility, part of the Tata conglomerate, activated business continuity protocols following the June 5 blaze, but challenges persist in restoring affected systems and data.
One client, Matrix Cellular, reported losing two decades of data, while a source indicated the incident contributed to intermittent Google Cloud network disruptions in India. Television footage showed severe damage to server racks and electrical infrastructure, with debris and collapsed ceiling panels visible.
Tata Communications acknowledged in a June 15 letter that the fire’s severity has hindered recovery efforts, despite ongoing attempts to restore services. The facility serves multiple clients, raising concerns about broader operational impacts.
