New model aims to help businesses scale AI adoption after research shows only 21% have redesigned processes around the technology.
Accenture and Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute launched an AI Adoption Maturity Model to guide organizations from experimental AI use to scaled deployment. The framework addresses challenges in integrating AI into core operations, with research showing 86% of C-suite leaders increasing AI investment this year but only 21% having redesigned business processes around it.
Nearly half of executives surveyed reported minimal profitability impact from AI initiatives, citing unclear expectations and weak execution. The model was developed after reviewing over 100 existing frameworks, interviewing 25 executives, and surveying nearly 600 practitioners, incorporating lessons from Fortune 500 pilots.
The framework leverages four decades of maturity modeling expertise from CMU SEI and Accenture’s experience in over 11,000 AI projects globally. It provides a structured approach to evaluate current AI capabilities and plan responsible adoption.
