Smucker Tops Q1 Estimates, Lifts FY27 Earnings Guidance on Coffee Strength

J.M. Smucker raised its fiscal 2027 adjusted EPS outlook after reporting $3.24 per share in Q1, beating estimates by $1.02.

J.M. Smucker posted adjusted earnings of $3.24 per share for Q1 2027, up from $1.90 a year earlier and $1.02 above the $2.22 consensus. The beat included an 84-cent benefit from tariff refunds. Net sales rose 5% to $2.22 billion, driven by a 13% jump in U.S. retail coffee revenue to $807.8 million and a 124% surge in coffee segment profit to $300 million.

Gross profit more than doubled, climbing 106% year over year, with $115 million in tariff refunds contributing to the gain. Free cash flow improved to $337.3 million from negative $94.9 million in the prior-year period. The Sweet Baked Snacks segment lagged, with net sales down 7% to $236.5 million and segment profit falling 13%.

Based on the quarter’s performance, Smucker raised its full-year adjusted earnings per share outlook for fiscal 2027.
