SpaceX will invest $100 billion to build Starbase Louisiana, a Starship campus on 125,000 acres in Vermilion Parish. The project includes five launch complexes, each with two launchpads, alongside fuel production, power generation, and deep-water shipping facilities.
Construction is set to begin in 2027, with the first launch expected by 2029. The site will create 3,000 jobs and may include housing and an airport. Environmental concerns persist due to coastal wetlands and SpaceX’s existing legal challenges over habitat protection.
Governor Jeff Landry highlighted the project’s economic benefits, calling it transformative for the region. SpaceX has pledged to work with state agencies to mitigate environmental impacts, though opposition from conservation groups is anticipated.
