USD/MXN holds below 16.95 after Mexico posts an $8.9 billion Q2 2026 current account surplus, offsetting geopolitical shifts.

The Mexican Peso remains near 10-year highs against the US Dollar, with USD/MXN trading at 16.94, unchanged on the day. Investors are balancing US economic data releases and a reported US policy shift toward sanctions on Iran rather than military strikes, which has tempered volatility in the pair.

Mexico’s current account swung to an $8.9 billion surplus in Q2 2026, recovering from a revised $18.23 billion deficit in the prior quarter. Despite falling US Treasury yields, which typically pressure the Dollar, the Peso failed to extend gains, as traders awaited key US inflation data later this week.

The US Dollar Index (DXY) edged down 0.08% to 98.90, reflecting mixed signals from US consumer confidence and housing data. While building permits rose in July, the Conference Board’s index missed estimates, though households reported improved business and labor market conditions.
