Moderna’s stock falls to $135.22 as investors lock in gains following a near-400% year-to-date surge with no new negative catalysts.

Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) shares dropped 7% to $135.22 in early trading Monday, retreating after a 392% year-to-date gain that peaked at $176.66 last week. The decline appears driven by profit-taking rather than fundamental concerns, with heavy volume but no new negative developments reported.

The pullback follows a historic rally, outpacing peers like BioNTech (down 4%) and Merck (up 47% YTD). Moderna’s phase 3 success for its mRNA cancer therapy, combined with Keytruda, has fueled optimism, targeting 112,000 annual U.S. melanoma cases. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 1% to $211.73 in contrast.

Retail sentiment remains bullish despite the dip, suggesting the broader uptrend may hold. Institutional positioning and sector rotation could further influence near-term moves.
