WMT stock suffered its largest single-day decline since 2022 despite strong revenue and profit growth, driven by decelerating U.S. comp sales.

Walmart reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $187.9 billion, up 5.9% year over year, and raised its full-year outlook. The stock still fell 9.2% to $103.84, its steepest drop since May 2022, as U.S. comparable sales growth slowed to 2.6% from 4.6% a year earlier.

The company’s global e-commerce sales rose 23%, advertising grew 38%, and membership fee income increased 17%. Adjusted earnings per share reached $0.81, while operating income climbed 28.8%. However, the deceleration in U.S. comp sales overshadowed these gains, marking the fourth-largest decline for WMT in 15 years.

Management lifted its fiscal-year sales growth forecast to 4%-5% in constant currency, up from 3.5%-4.5%, citing strength in e-commerce and advertising. The stock’s drop reflects investor concern over slowing momentum in core retail operations.
