High-end auto CEOs report surging demand for ultra-luxury vehicles amid broader wealth polarization, driven by liquidity events and economic uncertainty.

Luxury car executives describe a K-shaped economy at the highest end of the market, with demand for seven-figure hypercars and record auction prices diverging sharply from broader trends. McKeel Hagerty, CEO of collector-car insurer Hagerty, noted that $100 million car collections are now assembled in months rather than decades, fueled by liquidity events like IPOs and stock market gains.

While the ultra-wealthy drive demand, factors like tariffs, high interest rates, and geopolitical tensions deter even moderately affluent buyers. Bentley CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser confirmed the split in order books, highlighting a stark contrast between the top tier and lower segments.

The phenomenon reflects broader economic polarization, with the highest earners largely insulated from macroeconomic pressures that weigh on other wealth brackets.
