US-listed active exchange-traded funds (ETFs) drew $466.8 billion in year-to-date inflows, up sharply from $263 billion in the comparable 2024 period. The surge reflects a shift toward active strategies within the ETF wrapper, which offers tax efficiency and lower fees than mutual funds.

Inflows into active ETFs reached $245.2 billion in the first quarter alone, breaking records set in 2024. Last month, the category added nearly $63.6 billion, pushing its share of total ETF flows to 42%, up from 26% earlier this year.

The trend highlights asset managers pivoting to active ETFs amid intense competition in passive products, potentially reshaping fund flows and single-stock dynamics over time.
