Minda Corporation will invest $28.2m to build a manufacturing facility in Pune for automotive thin film transistor (TFT) displays. The project targets instrument clusters, infotainment systems, and cockpits, aligning with India’s push for domestic electronics production.

The plant will initially focus on localizing assembly before expanding to full module production, including backlight and cover glass components. TFT displays account for 40-45% of an automotive display’s bill of materials, most of which are currently imported.

The facility, approved under India’s Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors, will supply both internal operations and external automakers. The move supports backward integration and deep localization in the supply chain.
