Citi will launch Bitcoin custody services later this year, enabling institutional clients to manage crypto and traditional assets within the same framework. The move advances the bank’s 2026 timeline for digital asset custody, integrating it into its Custody+ suite of tools.

The service builds on Citi’s existing infrastructure, including Citi Token Services, which processes over 80% of asset-servicing events in real time and supports 24/7 tokenized deposit transfers. The bank previously outlined plans for institutional Bitcoin custody in October but did not specify a launch date.

Citi framed the expansion as a response to client demand for streamlined operating models amid evolving market complexities. The bank’s custody head noted the shift toward next-generation architecture, though no immediate market reaction was reported.
