Developers confirm FOCIL and Frame Transactions for 2027 upgrade to enable self-paying privacy pools and reduce third-party reliance.
Ethereum developers have prioritized two proposals for the 2027 Hegotá upgrade aimed at enhancing privacy and transaction control. Frame Transactions (EIP-8141) and Fork-Choice Enforced Inclusion Lists (FOCIL, EIP-7805) will allow privacy pools to pay their own fees, eliminating the need for intermediaries that may expose wallet activity.
The upgrade includes 66 proposals under consideration, with FOCIL currently the only confirmed addition. Frame Transactions, combined with Keyed Nonces and Recent Roots (EIP-8272), will enable a more expressive transaction format, improving protocol-level inclusion guarantees for privacy transactions.
The changes are expected to strengthen Ethereum’s transaction infrastructure by reducing censorship risks and enhancing user control over transaction execution.
