Berkshire Hathaway buys 48 million Alphabet shares worth $37.8 billion

Berkshire Hathaway has purchased 48 million Alphabet shares, valued at $37.8 billion, in the second quarter.

This investment makes Alphabet the third-largest holding in Berkshire’s portfolio, behind Apple and American Express.

The purchase ends a 14-quarter streak of net selling by Berkshire, with Alphabet’s search monopoly and $53 billion in trailing free cash flow underpinning the investment decision.

Berkshire also added 17.5 million shares of Delta Air Lines and 4.3 million shares of Macy’s to its portfolio.
