Over 35 Bitcoin and crypto companies urge AI labs to provide early access to advanced models for security research.

More than three dozen Bitcoin and cryptocurrency firms, including Coinbase, Block, and ARK Invest, have signed a letter requesting early access to advanced AI models from major labs. The firms argue that current safety guardrails hinder legitimate security work while attackers exploit unrestricted tools, leaving defenders at a disadvantage.

The letter, organized by the Bitcoin Policy Institute, highlights that Bitcoin Core developers lack access to trusted-partner programs and face restrictions on public AI models. Recent exploits targeting BTCPay Server and Lightning nodes, uncovered by an AI-powered volunteer group, underscore the urgency of the request.

Signatories are calling for early model access, compute resources, secure testing environments, and direct communication channels with AI lab security teams. The firms emphasize that defending trillion-dollar infrastructure requires tools comparable to those used by adversaries.
