The People’s Bank of China set the daily USD/CNY reference rate at 6.7888, up from 6.7882 the previous session. The fix exceeded the Reuters estimate of 6.7470, reflecting a marginal weakening of the yuan against the dollar.

China’s central bank uses the reference rate to guide onshore yuan trading, adjusting it based on market conditions and policy objectives. The PBOC aims to balance exchange rate stability with broader economic goals, including financial market reforms and growth support.

The yuan’s slight depreciation follows recent efforts to manage volatility amid global monetary policy shifts and domestic economic challenges. The PBOC’s tools, including the Loan Prime Rate and foreign exchange interventions, help steer currency movements.
