The recent inflation scare appears to be fading from the data, with housing trends playing a key role.

Core CPI advanced 0.2 percent in July, also matching expectations, after rounding to no change in June.

Annual headline inflation eased to 3.4 percent from 3.5 percent in June, while core inflation slowed to 2.5 percent, its softest pace.

The easing inflation trend supports the Fed staying on hold in September, but August’s data could still shift the picture.
