Proposal would index capital gains to inflation and raise home sale exemptions, benefiting asset holders including BTC investors.
President Donald Trump is evaluating a plan to index capital gains taxes to inflation, allowing investors to adjust the cost basis of assets for inflation before calculating taxable profits. The proposal could also increase exemptions for home sales, raising the threshold to $2 million from $250,000 for single filers and $500,000 for married couples.
The move aims to stimulate investment ahead of midterm elections, though it would require congressional approval. Current NEC Director Kevin Hassett and former director Larry Kudlow confirmed Trump’s interest in the policy, with Kudlow stating the president is “very interested” in both indexing and expanded exemptions.
No formal proposal has been announced, and the White House indicated policy details would come directly from the administration. Cryptocurrency holders, including BTC investors, could benefit if the changes are implemented.
