Russia’s central bank will restrict retail crypto trading to bitcoin, ether, and USDT on regulated exchanges starting September 1. Non-qualified investors face a 300,000-ruble ($3,600) annual purchase limit per intermediary, while qualified investors remain uncapped.

The rules clarify July legislation that legalized regulated crypto trading but left asset specifics undefined. Crypto payments within Russia remain prohibited under existing law. The $3,600 cap applies per intermediary, potentially allowing larger aggregate exposure through multiple brokers.
