India’s Consumer Price Index increased 4.45% year-over-year in July, up from 4.38% in June, as food prices accelerated. The print fell slightly below the 4.5% consensus forecast but remained above the Reserve Bank of India’s 4% medium-term target.

Food inflation reached 5.52% in July, with rural areas seeing a sharper rise at 5.79% compared to 5.05% in urban regions. The RBI’s broader 2%-6% tolerance band continues to contain price pressures, reducing immediate policy shift expectations.

Markets are monitoring the data for signs of sustained inflationary trends, though no near-term rate action is anticipated.
