Greg Abel’s second-quarter purchase marks the largest addition to Berkshire Hathaway’s own stock since Warren Buffett’s tenure.

Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel acquired $4.5 billion of the conglomerate’s own shares in the second quarter, the largest such purchase since Warren Buffett’s leadership. The move follows a $10 billion investment in Alphabet earlier in the quarter, now Berkshire’s fifth-largest holding.

Abel ended a 14-quarter streak of net stock sales that began in late 2022, shifting focus to Berkshire’s own stock, a long-time favorite of Buffett. The purchase was detailed in the company’s latest regulatory filing, highlighting Abel’s strategic alignment with Buffett’s investment philosophy.

The transaction underscores confidence in Berkshire’s long-term value, though market reaction to the filing has been muted amid broader earnings season focus.
