BorgWarner has added to its variable cam timing (VCT) order book with fresh programme awards in Europe and China.

In Europe, the company won a programme life extension and a “significant” increase in volumes for a “leading” premium carmaker’s V6 engine family

In China, it secured a conquest award for a “major” domestic carmaker’s 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine family, replacing the previous supplier. BorgWarner said the contracts centre on its centre-bolt Cam Torque Actuated (CTA) VCT system. The company said that, compared with oil-pressure actuated VCT designs, the system reduces and simplifies internal oil passages.

According to BorgWarner, this enables “superior cam phasing response, stronger lock-pin engagement and reduced oil consumption for improved fuel economy”. For the European customer, BorgWarner is supplying the CTA VCT system for a V6 engine range used in premium and sports cars. The engine family covers two output classes from 260kW to 375kW, in both hybrid and petrol-only versions.
