June’s surplus fell below forecasts as imports outpaced exports, marking the lowest level since March amid rising demand.
Germany’s trade surplus contracted to €15.4 billion in June, down from an upwardly revised €19.3 billion in May and below the €17.4 billion estimate. The decline was driven by a sharper rise in imports compared to exports, signaling robust domestic demand.
Exports increased by 0.9% month-over-month to €139.3 billion, reaching a nearly four-year high. Analysts had anticipated a smaller surplus, reflecting persistent global trade dynamics and shifting demand patterns.
The data underscores Germany’s exposure to external economic fluctuations while highlighting internal consumption trends.
