Crypto exchange Bitget partners with Bhutan’s $100 billion Gelephu economic zone to pursue a licensed local operation.
Crypto exchange Bitget has agreed to explore a regulated presence in Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City, a $100 billion autonomous economic zone. The deal with the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority aims to secure a financial services license for Bitget’s local operations, leveraging the zone’s digital asset sector growth.
Gelephu, backed by Bhutan’s national Bitcoin reserves, targets high-value roles in finance, technology, and wellness. Last week, the zone appointed 3iQ to manage part of its Bitcoin treasury, signaling expanding digital asset infrastructure.
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen stated the exchange will contribute expertise and talent development as the ecosystem develops. The partnership follows Bhutan’s broader push to integrate digital assets into its economic strategy.
