Markets seek signals from Hungary’s MPC on potential shifts in easing policy to stabilize the Forint near 360 per Euro.

The Hungarian Forint (HUF) has retreated to above 360 against the Euro (EUR), reversing earlier gains amid external pressures and the Magyar Nemzeti Bank’s (MNB) ongoing rate-cutting cycle. Recent easing guidance has weakened the currency’s interest rate support, raising concerns over further depreciation.

The MNB previously indicated room for additional rate cuts through the summer before reassessing in September, despite shifting inflation risks. This unconditional stance has reduced confidence in the Forint’s stability, leaving investors reliant on upcoming Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) minutes for clarity.

A more conditional tone from the MPC could signal a pause in rate cuts, limiting downside pressure on the Forint. The MNB has historically prioritized foreign exchange stability, a factor markets will weigh in the minutes.
