Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara reiterates the Bank of Japan’s independence in choosing policy measures to meet inflation targets.
Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara stated that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) holds sole authority over selecting specific monetary policy tools. The remarks underscore the central bank’s independence in decision-making amid market speculation on policy shifts.
Kihara declined to comment on recent remarks by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent regarding the yen or reports that Prime Minister Takaichi requested BoJ Governor Ueda to purchase Japanese government bonds. He emphasized close communication between the government and the BoJ on economic trends.
The official also noted that bond yields are market-determined, avoiding direct commentary on potential interventions or policy adjustments.
