China’s central bank sets the daily yuan reference rate at 6.7889, above Reuters’ estimate of 6.7480, signaling modest currency support.
The People’s Bank of China set the USD/CNY reference rate at 6.7889 for Wednesday’s trading session, slightly stronger than Tuesday’s fix of 6.7917. The rate came in above Reuters’ estimate of 6.7480, indicating a modest appreciation bias for the yuan.
The PBOC’s daily fix serves as a midpoint for the yuan’s trading band, allowing fluctuations of 2% in either direction. Recent fixes have reflected efforts to stabilize the currency amid external pressures, including USD strength and capital flow volatility.
The central bank uses tools like foreign exchange interventions and the Loan Prime Rate to manage the yuan’s value, aligning with its broader monetary policy objectives of price and exchange rate stability.
