The discovery at Sandia-1 well in Block GUA-OFF-O adds to regional gas potential amid Petrobras’ reserve replenishment strategy.
Petrobras has identified a natural gas deposit at the Sandia-1 exploratory well in Colombia’s deep waters, located 42km offshore at a depth of 1,251m. The well, drilled between June and July 2026, is undergoing evaluation to assess gas zones detected during logging operations.
The discovery is near existing wells Sirius-1, Sirius-2, and Copoazu-1, reinforcing the area’s gas prospects. Petrobras holds a 44.44% operating interest in Block GUA-OFF-O, with Ecopetrol owning the remaining 55.56%. The find aligns with Petrobras’ strategy to bolster oil and gas reserves during the global energy transition.
Petrobras recently launched oil production at Brazil’s Búzios 8 project, underscoring its focus on expanding output. Further analysis of the Sandia-1 deposit will determine its contribution to regional energy supply.
