Indonesia’s currency faces pressure from geopolitical risks and fiscal concerns, halting a four-day decline against the USD.

The USD/IDR pair reversed its four-day losing streak, trading at 18,090 in Asian hours as the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) weakened. Persistent geopolitical volatility and energy market instability are weighing on the currency, according to analysts.

Indonesia’s external position remains vulnerable, with near-term risks of a twin deficit emerging as both current account and fiscal balances face pressure. While downstream nickel projects and industrialization efforts support long-term export growth, energy security programs are unlikely to provide immediate relief.

The USD held firm against the Rupiah amid heightened diplomatic tensions, including US-Iran negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts suggest structural resilience may improve over time with continued investment in export-focused initiatives.
