Strategy sold 1,638 bitcoin last week, generating approximately $105 million that the company said Monday will go toward preferred stock dividends and share repurchases.
Following the transaction, Strategy’s bitcoin reserve stands at 842,138 coins, valued at approximately $53 billion based on current market prices
The company also said it repurchased $81 million of its STRC preferred shares and increased its USD Reserve by $250 million, bringing the total cash cushion to $4 billion. The bitcoin sale is the latest step in a capital framework Strategy adopted in late June that formally authorizes management to sell bitcoin and direct proceeds toward reserve building, dividend and interest obligations, or share repurchases. The board authorized bitcoin sales of up to $1.25 billion under that plan.
Two separate repurchase authorizations — each covering up to $1 billion — were established for preferred securities and class A common stock. The framework marked a significant shift from Strategy’s historical posture. The company had designated bitcoin its primary treasury reserve asset and largely avoided selling it, but mounting obligations tied to its preferred stock and convertible debt pushed it toward active capital management.
