Berkshire Hathaway’s new CEO increased its Alphabet stake to $31.5 billion, making it the firm’s fifth-largest holding.
Berkshire Hathaway invested $23 billion in Alphabet stock under CEO Greg Abel, expanding its position to 28.6 million shares. The move follows an initial $13 billion purchase in Q1 2026 and a $10 billion private placement in June, valuing the stake at $31.5 billion.
Abel inherited $369 billion in cash and equivalents from Warren Buffett, who previously bought 17.85 million Alphabet shares in Q3 2025. The expanded holding now represents 8.8% of Berkshire’s portfolio, ranking as its fifth-largest position.
The investment reflects Abel’s long-term confidence in Alphabet’s growth, diverging from Buffett’s historical tech skepticism. Berkshire also holds stakes in Delta Airlines, The New York Times, Macy’s, and Lennar.
