Greg Abel reduces Berkshire Hathaway’s Chevron position by 35% while elevating Alphabet to its fifth-largest holding in Q1.
Berkshire Hathaway slashed its Chevron stake by 35% in the first quarter, marking the largest single-quarter reduction since the position was established in 2020. The move reduced holdings by 45.8 million shares, trimming a six-year investment in the oil giant.
Chevron’s stock surged from $152 to $207 between early 2026 and the end of Q1, delivering significant gains for Berkshire. The conglomerate also elevated Alphabet to its fifth-largest holding, signaling a shift in Abel’s investment strategy.
The changes reflect Abel’s first major portfolio adjustments since taking over as CEO from Warren Buffett at the start of the year, overseeing Berkshire’s $355 billion investment portfolio.
