Buffett-endorsed VOO surpasses $1 trillion in assets after delivering a 303% total return over the past 10 years.
The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) delivered a 303% total return over the past decade, turning a $10,000 investment into over $40,000 as of July 28, 2026. The fund, which tracks the S&P 500 index, charges an annual expense ratio of 0.03%, or $3 per $10,000 invested.
VOO became the first ETF to cross $1 trillion in assets on June 2, 2026. Combined with its mutual fund share class, the Vanguard 500 Index Fund holds approximately $1.6 trillion in total assets. The fund’s performance outpaces the average large-cap equity fund, which charges a 0.72% expense ratio.
The ETF’s growth underscores the long-term benefits of passive investing, as highlighted by Warren Buffett’s endorsement of low-cost index funds in his 2013 Berkshire Hathaway shareholder letter.
