A political action committee linked to the crypto industry has allocated $1M to support Rep. Shri Thanedar’s re-election campaign in Michigan’s 13th District. The spending follows Thanedar’s votes for the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act, both aimed at shaping digital asset regulations in the U.S.

Fairshake PAC and its affiliates spent over $170 million during the 2024 election cycle to back candidates favoring crypto-friendly policies. Thanedar, a Democrat, also co-sponsored the Promoting Innovation in Blockchain Development Act, which seeks to protect developers. The Michigan primary is set for Tuesday, though the PAC has already shifted focus to 2026 races.

Opponent Michael McKinney accused the crypto lobby of repaying Thanedar for policies benefiting former President Trump, who reported $1.4 billion in crypto earnings in 2025, including from his memecoin TRUMP and World Liberty Financial.
