The Bank of England’s latest communication reflects a modestly hawkish hold, with Monetary Policy Committee members emphasizing inflation persistence and second-round effects. MUFG’s textual sentiment framework scored member contributions at 23.3, indicating a hawkish lean, though Governor Bailey’s press conference toned down expectations with a 17.0 score.

Key members like Catherine Mann (80) and Huw Pill (71) remain firmly hawkish, while Swati Dhingra (-28) and Alan Taylor (-33) represent the dovish wing. The Committee acknowledged softer growth and easing inflation but warned of energy price risks and geopolitical uncertainties.

Despite the hawkish undertones, officials pushed back on imminent rate hike expectations, leaving GBP supported but with limited upside as restrictive policy remains in place.
