Okta has agreed to acquire AI security startup Permiso Security for just under $200 million, structured primarily as a cash transaction. The deal reflects Okta’s push to secure machine identities as enterprises integrate AI agents into operations, a growing priority in identity management.

Permiso, founded in 2022 by former FireEye executives, specializes in monitoring cloud environments for suspicious activity post-access. Its platform has recently expanded to include AI agents and machine identities, aligning with Okta’s strategy to move beyond user verification.

The acquisition is expected to close in Okta’s fiscal third quarter of 2027, pending standard conditions. The move intensifies competition among identity management firms to address evolving security threats in AI-driven environments.
