CarMax (KMX) closed at $59.11 on July 29, 2026, delivering a 15.95% one-month return and a market capitalization of $8.39 billion. The used vehicle retailer’s fiscal first-quarter results met management expectations, with volumes improving due to targeted pricing investments.

Shares gained 1.87% over the past 52 weeks, while hedge fund ownership slightly declined, with 51 funds holding the stock at the end of Q1 2026 versus 52 in the prior quarter. Vulcan Value Partners cited the new CEO, Keith Barr, as a positive factor but reallocated capital to more discounted opportunities.

The firm noted Barr’s prior leadership at InterContinental Hotels Group as a key credential, reinforcing confidence in CarMax’s long-term strategy.
