MoonPay introduced PayBox, a payment vault integrated into AI chatbots Claude and ChatGPT, enabling autonomous transaction execution. The system uses multi-party computation (MPC) and trusted execution environments (TEE) to secure wallet keys, preventing single-party access to funds or transactions.
The technology stems from MoonPay’s April acquisition of Israeli firm Sodot for approximately $100 million. PayBox stores crypto wallets and payment cards, allowing AI agents to initiate transactions after user approval via passkeys like Face ID.
Previously, AI chatbots could research and plan purchases but required manual completion. PayBox removes this friction, positioning AI agents to handle payments directly within conversations.
