Global investigators report delays in obtaining crypto exchange user data due to Binance’s new compliance procedures.

Binance has altered its compliance rules, requiring most foreign law enforcement requests to be routed through the United Arab Emirates and Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties. The change, implemented in April 2025, has slowed access to user data for investigators tracking scammers and money laundering operations.

Authorities in Europe and the U.S. say the new procedures hinder efforts to freeze or seize assets, though Binance still responds directly in cases involving terrorism, child abuse, or imminent threats. The exchange maintains the policy aligns with regulated institutions and does not reduce cooperation.

The shift has frustrated law enforcement agencies, which previously relied on faster direct requests for data. Binance remains under scrutiny for its compliance practices amid ongoing regulatory challenges.
