India’s AI data-centre capacity is set to expand fourfold as demand for inferencing grows, Brookfield’s infrastructure head says.
Brookfield Asset Management projects 6.5 gigawatts of AI-focused data-centre capacity will come online in India over the next five years. The estimate reflects broader market growth, not just Brookfield’s own pipeline, as AI inferencing demand rises.
India currently has 1.5 gigawatts of installed data-centre capacity, nearly all for non-AI uses. Brookfield expects non-AI capacity to reach 3 gigawatts alongside new AI-driven demand. Its Digital Connexion joint venture operates 160 megawatts, with 60 megawatts fully leased.
Brookfield manages over $32 billion in Indian assets across infrastructure and energy strategies. The firm also plans to add 4-4.5 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity this year.
