The move disrupts 3 billion cubic meters of gas deliveries, impacting European buyers amid prolonged Strait of Hormuz blockades.
QatarEnergy has extended force majeure for its European liquefied natural gas (LNG) buyers until at least the end of September, citing ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. The company, a top global LNG exporter, has not seen tankers pass through the strait since July 16, severely limiting shipments to key markets.
Italy’s Edison SpA, a major European customer, reported QatarEnergy’s inability to deliver three LNG cargoes, adding to 24 impacted shipments totaling 3 billion cubic meters. Edison holds a long-term contract for 6.4 billion cubic meters annually, with first-quarter profits halving due to the disruptions.
The extension underscores broader supply chain vulnerabilities, particularly for Europe, though Asia faces greater exposure. Minimal shadow fleet activity suggests limited near-term relief for affected buyers.
