CS PowerTech opens a 6GW-peak capacity facility, marking the first US plant for HJT bifacial N-type solar cells.
CS PowerTech, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, has launched the first phase of a $1bn solar cell manufacturing plant in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The facility is the first in the US to produce heterojunction (HJT) bifacial N-type solar cells, with an annual capacity exceeding 6GW-peak at full operation.
The project aims to bolster domestic solar supply chains and create over 1,200 skilled jobs in southern Indiana. It complements CS PowerTech’s existing module plant in Texas, forming part of an integrated US supply strategy. The company highlights the plant’s role in advancing energy infrastructure and grid reliability.
The initiative aligns with broader efforts to localize solar technology production, reducing reliance on overseas manufacturing. No immediate market reaction was reported.
