The Japanese retailer ended discussions after failing to agree on terms for a multi-hundred-billion-yen investment in Poland’s largest convenience chain.
Seven & i Holdings has abandoned plans to invest in Zabka Group, Poland’s largest convenience store operator, citing unresolved terms with the seller. The proposed deal could have involved a stake of several tens of percent, valuing the transaction at hundreds of billions of yen.
Zabka, which operates 10,000 franchised stores, reported revenue of 27.15bn zlotys ($7.16bn) for the year ending December 2025. The investment would have marked Seven & i’s entry into Eastern Europe as part of its goal to expand its global store network to 100,000 outlets by 2030, up from 87,000 currently.
Seven & i stated it remains committed to its international growth strategy but did not disclose further details on alternative expansion plans. Its European presence is currently limited to the Nordic region, with around 360 stores.
