Benchmark Dutch gas futures fell sharply after Washington paused strikes and Tehran signaled no further retaliation in the Middle East.
European natural gas prices tumbled 8.6% at Monday’s open in Amsterdam, retreating from multi-month highs reached last week. The decline followed a weekend pause in US strikes on Iran and Tehran’s indication it would halt retaliatory attacks across the region.
Prices had surged over the past two weeks amid escalating hostilities, but de-escalation hopes weighed on energy markets broadly. Brent crude also slipped in Asian trade, trading near $90 per barrel.
The pullback reflects market relief over reduced geopolitical risks, though diplomatic efforts to reopen regional supply routes remain uncertain.
