Lawmakers still own individual stocks despite ban
The House passed legislation banning individual stock trading among members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children.
The bill, known as the ‘Stop Insider Trading Act’, was passed in a 232-198 vote.
Critics argue that the measure contains major loopholes, as lawmakers won’t be compelled to sell off their existing stock portfolio.
Approximately 48% of Congress still owns individual stocks, prompting criticism from lawmakers like Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
