NextEra Energy reported $1.09 adjusted EPS, up 10% YoY, driven by utility growth and a record renewables backlog.

NextEra Energy (NEE) delivered Q1 2026 adjusted earnings per share of $1.09, a 10% year-over-year increase, on $6.70 billion in revenue. The company added roughly 100,000 customers at Florida Power & Light and brought 600 MW of new solar capacity online. Its renewables backlog reached a record 33 GW after booking 4 GW in the quarter.

CEO John Ketchum reiterated guidance for 8%-plus annual EPS growth through 2032, supported by regulated earnings and the renewables pipeline. Brookfield Renewable Partners (BEP), by contrast, reported a GAAP net loss of $295 million, impacted by derivatives marks and a focus on hydro and nuclear assets.

The results highlight differing strategies for income investors: NextEra’s regulated utility cash flow versus Brookfield’s global hydro and nuclear exposure.
