Institutional inflows into bitcoin ETFs and higher interest rates shift capital away from speculative memecoins, data shows.
The combined market capitalization of top memecoins now represents just 1.02% of bitcoin’s $1.30 trillion market cap, the lowest ratio on record. This marks a sharp decline from 2021, when memecoins accounted for 7% of BTC’s valuation.
Bitcoin’s growth and the rise of U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs in 2024 have drawn institutional investors, who favor BTC as a macro asset over speculative tokens. Capital has also flowed into real-world asset sectors, further reducing demand for memecoins.
The shift reflects broader market maturation, with higher global interest rates ending the era of easy speculative gains in crypto.
