The European Commission imposed fines totaling €890M on Google for self-preferencing and restricting app developers under DMA regulations.

The European Commission fined Google €890M for breaching the Digital Markets Act, with separate penalties of €460M and €430M for distinct violations. The fines stem from allegations that Google prioritized its own services in search results and limited app developers from offering cheaper alternatives outside Google Play.

Google argued that compliance could degrade product features in Europe, including removing real-time search updates and altering protections in Google Play. The Commission determined these practices violated DMA requirements aimed at ensuring fair competition among digital platforms.

The ruling marks one of the first major enforcement actions under the DMA, which targets anti-competitive behavior by large tech firms.
