New benchmark targets institutional investors as crypto index products expand amid growing demand for diversified exposure.

S&P Global launched a blockchain fundamentals index aimed at digital assets, reflecting rising institutional interest in crypto benchmarks. The move follows a wave of similar products, including Hashdex’s Nasdaq Crypto Index US ETF and Franklin Templeton’s Franklin Crypto Index ETF, both introduced in early 2025.

The trend gained momentum with MarketVector and Coinbase’s Coinbase Store of Value Index in April, combining Bitcoin and tokenized gold. Industry figures like Bitwise’s Matt Hougan predict broader adoption of crypto index funds in 2026 as investors seek diversified exposure amid market complexity.

The index arrives as traditional finance firms expand crypto offerings, with tokenized assets gaining traction. Benchmarks like these aim to provide structured access to digital assets, addressing challenges in predicting long-term winners in the sector.
