Senator Mark Warner urged major financial trade groups to reject Trump Media & Technology Group’s Truth API, a paid data feed offering early access to President Donald Trump’s Truth Social posts. Warner argued the arrangement could allow Trump to profit from market-moving presidential communications, raising ethical concerns for the financial industry.
The letters were sent to six trade groups, including the Bank Policy Institute and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. Warner, a member of the Senate Banking Committee, emphasized the potential for privileged access to government information to distort markets. Major banks have shown no interest in the product, citing political risks unrelated to standard market-data subscriptions.
No trade group representatives responded to requests for comment. The push highlights broader scrutiny over the intersection of political influence and financial market practices.
