Chipmaker secures $5 billion investment and AI server contract with Anthropic, targeting Nvidia’s dominance in AI hardware.

Advanced Micro Devices agreed to invest up to $5 billion in artificial intelligence startup Anthropic, alongside a deal for tens of billions of dollars in AI servers. The agreement includes up to 2 gigawatts of AMD’s next-generation Instinct MI450 chips, with deliveries starting in early 2027.

The deal follows industry estimates that 1 gigawatt of AI computing power costs around $50 billion. Anthropic plans to deploy the chips in its data centers and through cloud providers. AMD aims to challenge Nvidia’s leadership in the AI hardware market with this expansion.

No immediate market reaction was reported, though the partnership signals AMD’s growing influence in AI infrastructure.
